Our Story

Art world School is a professional skill based art school established in 1997 in Portland and now located in NW Portland. It is located right across from Findley Elementary and close to the Beaverton, Bethany, Forest Heights, and Cedar Mill areas. It was established by Pacific Northwest artists, then later expanded by art professional Mimi Yan. Mimi Yan has extensive teaching experience with students of all ages and has received training in fine art, graphic design, art history in New York, abroad, and Portland, Oregon. She established the school to create a learning center for students of all ages who are interested in art to learn the skills they have also wanted to, and create the art they have always wanted to. The school stresses on the importance of helping each student develop a strong basic skills set by learning the fundamentals of art, concepts, and methods first. Students are trained in all mediums of fine art such as drawing, sketching, painting, color theory, and composition. Students also work extensively with different mediums such as various types of pastels, color pencils, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, oil painting, and gauche. Professional instructors teach each student step by step with constant feedback to insure each student learns through the process of creating art and shows improvement w the addition of other programs such as seasonal camps (winter camp, fall camp, summer camp), an after school program, no school day program, more day and evening classes, as well as weekend classes. Class sizes are always small each student's lesson plan is personalized to suit the individual, their own level, and interests. The instructor gives each student individual attention, instruction, and feedback during each class to optimize the class quality. The after school program is offered with transportation provide to nearby schools - Findley Elementary, Bonny Slope Elementary, Cedar Mill Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, Terra Linda Elementary, Sato Elementary, Jacob Wismer Elementary, Rock Creek Elementary, Bethany Elementary, Springville Elementary, West TV Elementary and more. There is a variety of different day, evening, and weekend classes for all ages. Student have won number state, national, and international art competitions in contests such as the Doodle for Google, Federal Junior Duck Stamp competition, State Fish Competition, Oregon Humane Society Annual Poster Contest, Cray Pas Wonderful Colorful World Art Competition, World Children's Museum Art Competition, Unicef Card Design Competition, Co/Alliance for Justice Poster Contest, and more. Art World School also holds an annual art show for students at the Portland Art Museum for them to showcase their artworks, learn from each other, and share their art with the Portland community. Media Publications about Art World School and the art students have been in found in the Oregonian, Tigard Times, Portland Chinese Times, and more.

Special Events

Since Art World School's establishment since 1997, Art World School has held numerous exciting events for students and the community to enjoy. Art World School has partnered with Warner Bros on art classes for students to create artwork on FANTASTIC BEASTS: SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE to celebrate the release of the movie, where students were able to attend the advance screening of the movie and receive promotional items. Every year, Art World School also showcases student artwork at Washington Square Mall as well as the Portland Art Museum. Students also participate in live drawing and various state, national and international art competitions.

Students Awards

Since it's establishment in 1997 Art World School students have received much recognition and art awards in state, national, and international art competitions. Students from the Portland, Beaverton, Bethany, Tigard, Vancouver, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Clackamas, and greater Portland area have participated these art competitions have not just received success with their submission but success from learning through the process as well. Art contests such as the Humane Society's Annual Poster Contest, State Fish Art Contest, Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition, World.

Art Shows

Art World School holds two art shows every year for all students. Students from our after school program, fine art program, online art program, summer camp, spring camp, winter camp, no school day camp, and fall camp can participate with their works. The art shows are intended as opportunities for students to showcase their completed artworks, critique their artworks with viewers, and also learn from each other's artworks. Annual art shows are held at the Portland Art Museum, Washington Square Mall, Cedar Mill library, as well as other venues in the Portland, Beaverton, Bethany, Tigard, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Vancouver, and Clackamas areas.

Art Performances

Art World School holds art performance events every year for students to demonstrate live drawing. This showcases the strong art foundation and basic skill sets that they develop from classes in the fine art program and after school program at Art World School. Students are able to draw a picture with some color in a limited time frame in front of an audience in these events. These live drawing events have been held by Art World School at venues as as the Portland Art Museum, Washington Square Mall, Cedar Mill Library, as well as other venues in the Portland, Beaverton, Bethany, Tigard, West Linn, Lake Oswego, Vancouver, and Clackamas areas. Students are able to demonstrate their drawing, sketching, coloring, and painting skills during these live drawing events.
