Mimi Yan

Owner/Director/Teacher of Art World School 

Director Mimi has been teaching Fine Art classes since 2007 and her education includes a Bachelor degree at the Pratt Institute of New York and masters degree at Portland State University, where she studied fine arts, graphic design, as well as art history. In 2018, she established new locations that retain the same successful fine art program with the addition of a new after-school program under the name of Art World School. She has been awarded many regional, national, and international art awards herself. Some of those achievements include winning 1st place in the APACSA poster design contest in 2000, 2nd place twice in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition in 2001 and 2002, and 3rd place for the 1st Annual National Co/Motion Alliance For Justice Poster design contest in 2003, where she was the only winner of Asian descent and of Oregon to be awarded in the contest and was invited to Washington D.C. to accept the award personally from then Congressman David Wu and Senator Wyden. As the only winner from Oregon, she was also featured on public broadcast and interviewed for publication. Her student works have also won top awards every year from international and national contests such as the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition, Humane Society Poster Design Contest, and has been collected by the World’s Children’s Museum as well as been published in promotional material by art companies such as Blick and Sakura of America. Her students win numerous state, national, and international art contests every year. They also able to create art portfolios that help them successfully enter prestigious art schools. She strives to continuously research new teaching methods and mediums for students to learn, train other teachers at Art World School, plan the curriculum at Art World School, and organize effective as well as enjoyable art education programs for all students.
