School History: Art world School is a professional skill based art school established in 1997 in Portland and now located in NW Portland. It is located right across from Findley Elementary and close to the Beaverton, Bethany, Forest Heights, and Cedar Mill areas. It was established by Pacific Northwest artists, then later expanded by art professional Mimi Yan. Mimi Yan has extensive teaching experience with students of all ages and has received training in fine art, graphic design, and art history in New York, abroad, and Portland, Oregon. She established the school to create a learning center for students of all ages who are interested in art to learn the skills they have also wanted to, and create the art they have always wanted to.
The school stresses on the importance of helping each student develop a strong basic skills set by learning the fundamentals of art, concepts, and methods first. Students are trained in all mediums of fine art such as drawing, sketching, painting, color theory, and composition. Students also work extensively with different mediums such as various types of pastels, color pencils, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, oil painting, gauche, and mixed media. Professional instructors teach each student step by step with constant feedback to insure each student learns through the process of creating art and shows improvement with each class. 3D art classes with clay are also offered that teach projects with hand built clay, pottery, sculpture, and architecture. Calligraphy as well as arts and craft classes are also offered for students to receive a well rounded curriculum.
The school has expanded in the Portland are and now more students can experience the same classes and programs, with the addition of half day and full day camps, online classes, an after school program, and more evening as well as weekend class options. Fine Art, Clay, Arts and Craft, and Calligraphy classes can be taken as one-on-one, 2 student, or group classes. The after school program is offered with different schedule options and transportation provided to nearby schools – Findley Elementary, Bonny Slope Elementary, Cedar Mill Elementary, Forest ParK Elementary, Terra Linda Elementary, Sato Elementary, Jacob Wismer Elementary, Rock Creek Elementary, Bethany Elementary, Springville Elementary, West TV Elementary and more. There is a variety of different day, evening, and weekend classes for all ages.
The school also offers seasonal camps (Winter Camp, Fall Camp, Spring Camp, Summer Camp), a no school day program, and special weekend joint programs with other schools to offer more kinds of classes. There are many class options and flexible scheduling to create the perfect curriculum and lesson plans to suit each individual and their own level as well as interests.
