On Sunday 3/5/23 Art World School held two special event classes to help students create art and text for Scholastic’s Dragon in My Classroom contest. Students ages 4 – 11 took one of the 2 hour classes to learn how to draw and design their own dragon, draw a composition pertaining to the theme/prompt for the contest, and write text for their artwork based on the contest requirement. Students from Art World School’s After School Program, Fine Art Program, No School Day camps, and Online Art Program attended the classes to participate in the contest. Art World School teachers demonstrated drawing different features of dragons and inspired students with different ideas during the class, as well as helping students put their ideas on paper with watercolor markers and water brushes.

More than 30 Art World School students finished creative and beautiful entries for the contest and utilized the art skills they developed in Art World School’s various programs with drawing and painting classes. Through the process of creating their entries for the contest, students were able to exercise their sense of imagination and creativity to show their own unique styles and ideas. Students were encouraged to not copy pictures of dragons or draw typical images of dragons, but make their dragons their own unique design and have their own sense of expression. Art World School teachers also demonstrated different coloring methods with watercolor markers and water brushes for the dragon and background.

The Art World School Special Event Class was a wonderful opportunity for students to explore the world of art and ignite their creativity and imagination. The teachers provided a supportive and engaging environment that encouraged students to experiment with different art forms and techniques. The dragon-themed project was a fun and challenging activity that showcased the students’ unique talents and creativity. The event class demonstrated the importance of art education in promoting self-expression, creativity, and confidence in young minds.

Art World School looks forward to holding more classes such as these to encourage students to develop further the drawing and painting skills they developed in the school’s After School Program, Fine Art Program, No School Day Program, Spring Camp, Summer Camp, and Winter Camp in the Beaverton/Bethany/NW Portland area.
